Sunroof Leaking Water

Water leaks can cause many problems to vehicles including electrical problems, dampness, and condensation build-up on the inside of the glass. These problems usually occur when your fitted sunroof becomes faulty or if the drains block. At Sydney Motor Trimmers we specialise in rectifying this problem and getting to the source of the water leak. We can also remove carpets and replace underlay once the leak has been stopped which will rid the car of the rotten smell.

Sunroof Problems

Often sunroofs will just stop working, they are a complicated design, and most of the working mechanisms are concealed beneath the roof. We can repair factory sunroofs where parts are still available, sometimes it will just require cleaning and service while other times it will require new parts like cables, motors, or tracks.

Sunshade material problem

There are 2 types of internal shades, a sliding board and a roller blind, as seen in later cars. As the sun beats down on the board type the material will fall and this is like a sagging headlining problem, it needs to be removed and recovered. With the roller blind type the edges come away from the clock spring and the whole blind needs to be replaced, in most cases, the inner headlining and the complete sunroof unit need to be removed as the roller blind loads from the top.

FAQ’s

  • No.

To be able to quote we need to know what is wrong, unless it is a very common problem we will need to remove the complete unit and inspect, report and quote. There is considerable time needed to do this, it can be over $1000 before we know what the problem is.

  • If this happened there is a very good chance the sunroof is an aftermarket Hollandia or Vermeulen sunroof and there was a recall on these. Contact Webasto Sunroof’s in Kirrawee and they should replace it free of charge if the serial number lines up with the recall.

  • Leaking sunroofs are common, step one would be to do a simple water test and from there we can determine if it is a drain blocked or if there is another problem. Blocked drains on the front can be sometimes easy to clear other times they can be more involved, if the rear is blocked we may need to remove the lining to access them. Worst case we may need to remove the full headlining and take out the sunroof to clean the cassette and clear all drains.

If you want to drop in we can start with a simple 5-minute water test and discuss from there, alternatively just book it in and we will start investigating and keep you updated on cost as we go.
