Roof Lining
A sagging or damaged headliner can ruin the look of your vehicle’s interior and even become a safety hazard by blocking your rear-view visibility. Whether your car’s roof lining is peeling, flapping, or falling down, our expert team at Sydney Motor Trimmers can restore it to its original condition.
What is a Headliner?
The headliner is the fabric-covered interior ceiling of your vehicle. Over time, exposure to heat and humidity can cause the foam backing to deteriorate, leading to sagging, peeling, or detachment. This issue typically occurs 8-10 years after a car is manufactured.
Types of Headliners We Repair
Board Headliners
(Used in Most Modern Cars)
Made from a heavy cardboard or fibreglass board
Covered with foam-backed fabric
Common in most modern vehicles
Common Issues:
The sun damages the edges, causing material deterioration
Foam backing dries out and crumbles, making the fabric sag
Once the foam is damaged, the headliner cannot simply be re-glued
Solution:
We remove the entire board, clean off the old material and foam, and then apply new pre-bonded foam and fabric for a seamless finish.
Bow Headliners
(Found in Classic & Vintage Cars)
Suspended from bows (metal rods) across the roof
Common in classic cars & vintage vehicles
Common Issues:
Fabric gets holes or tears
Thread holding the material rots, causing sagging
Requires complete replacement, as repairs are usually impractical
Solution:
We can source pre-made bow headliners matching original specifications or create a custom replacement from reproduction materials. Some installations may require the removal of the windshield, side, or rear glass.
